LUCKNOW: Abdullah Azam Khan, Samajwadi Social gathering (SP) MLA from Rampur’s Suar constituency, was disqualified from the Uttar Pradesh assembly on Wednesday. The motion was taken after he was sentenced to 2 years in jail by a courtroom in a 15-year-old case.
Khan is the son of Azam Khan, a senior chief of the Samajwadi Social gathering.
“Abdullah Azam Khan has been disqualified following the Moradabad courtroom order sentencing him to 2 years (in jail) in a 15-year-old case. His seat has been declared vacant from February 13,” a senior official of the assembly stated.
Abdullah Azam Khan, alongside along with his father, was sentenced underneath part 353 (prison pressure to discourage public servant from discharge of his responsibility) and different provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) over a dharna on a state freeway on January 29, 2008 as their cavalcade was stopped by police for checking in the wake of an assault on a CRPF camp in Rampur on December 31, 2007.
He was earlier disqualified in 2020 after the Allahabad Excessive Courtroom put aside his election to the Assembly. His earlier disqualification was efficient from December 16, 2019.
